Second online game to be launched

Online game provider, CIDC Information Technology, has plan to launch its second online game named Attack Online (AK) after its first online game, Justice X Wars II (JXII) was launched last a few years. In the early, the government authorities closed down 300 gambling centers in Phnom Penh.

At the mean time, the government ordered to crack down all soccer gambling betting throughout the country because it really affected all Cambodia’s youths and common citizens in society.

After cracking down a gambling centers and internet cafes, JXII online game players started paying at home in the third quarter of 2009, according to the Post.

Chy Sila, CIDC-IT chief executive officer, was quoted by the Post as saying earlier this week: “I want people to see more people having computers to get online … when they go back home.”

At the mean time, the government regards online gaming a form of gambling, and illegal in Cambodia.

The second online game-AK- is not set to release yet because it is under testing since April 01.

Cambodia rejected Thai border allegation

Cambodian embassy in Bangkok sent letter dated Tuesday to the Thai foreign ministry by rejecting Thai accusation of the repair work which had been constructed entirely at a pagoda near Preah Vihear temple within the Cambodia’s territory.

Last month, Thai foreign ministry sent a not to Cambodian embassy to Thailand by saying that the repair on the monk’s quarters at the pagoda within their territory.

The embassy’s letter followed a similar communiqué written last Friday, in which it denounced accusations that a construction project near the Ta Krabey temple in Oddar Meanchey province had impinged on Thai territory, reported the Post.

Srey Doek, commander of Royal Cambodian Armed Forces Division 3 in Preah Vihear province, said repairs on the dilapidated dormitories at the Wat Keo Sekha Kirisvarak pagoda began about six months ago and took only a few days, according to the Post.

Screening of Chea Vichea film banned by government

Rong Chhun, president of Cambodian Confederation of Unions had planned to screen a US documentary on the murder of labor leader Chea Vichea on May 01 with a march of around 200 workers and teachers on the National Assembly and the site near Wat Langka pagoda where Chea Vichea was killed but the government authorities have banned this screening by saying that the film is not licensed in Cambodia.

Phnom Penh Governor Kep Chuktema responded in a letter to the confederation that authorities would approved the demonstration but not the screening of the film, which he said has no license from related ministries, VOA reported.

Phay Siphan, Council of Ministers spokesman, was quoted by the Post as saying Thursday that because organisers are planning to show the film outdoors, jurisdiction over their activities falls to City Hall and the Ministry of Interior. Under the Kingdom’s new Demonstration Law, passed last year, government authorities may “take actions to cease” any unauthorised demonstrations or public gatherings.

Ministry of Interior spokesman Khieu Sopheak said the film was considered an incitement of the public that painted relevant authorities as inefficient, VOA reported.

Senior Opposition Leaders Continue Court Battles

Senior opposition lawmaker Mu Sochua returned to Cambodia last week, where she is contesting a defamation verdict at the Supreme Court.

Mu Sochua, a member of the Sam Rainsy Party, was fined for remarks made in connection with a lawsuit against Prime Minister Hun Sen, who she claims defamed her in public speeches made last year. She had been traveling in the US.

Opposition leader Sam Rainsy himself remains in exile abroad, facing a two-year sentence on charges stemming from the destruction of border markers in Svay Rieng province, next to Vietnam.

He is also facing charges of disinformation—a potential 18-year sentence—for publishing a map on his Web site alleging border encroachment from Vietnam. On Tuesday, Sam Rainsy’s lawyer requested the establishment of a court border commission to investigate encroachment. (more…)
