Phnom Penh’s first overpass opened officially

In order to ease the traffic jams along Preah Monivong Blvd in Phnom Penh, the first “Sky Bridge” had been built with worth of US$6 million. Construction of overpass also serves as model for future overpasses in the Cambodia’s capital.

On Thursday, Cambodia’s prime minister Hun Sen inaugurated ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open this sky bridge. He also said that the inauguration of the first overpass is the history of Cambodia because the first overpass was born now.

The second overpass will be conducted a feasibility study by the municipality, and built on Russian Federation Boulevard near Preah Kossamak Hospital.

It is expected that the second bridge will help facilitate the daily commute of around 170,000 vehicles and 800,000 motorbikes.

The premier also said that “now that we have the first, there should be a second, third, fourth and so on.”
