The increase in Bio-diesel production

Producing bio-diesel from jatropha will increase from 100 liters up to 600 liters per day starting from early March. Joint venture company located in Kampong Speu province was started up between Cambodia and Japana, NCT Jacam Energy since mid-October, 2009.

The first start of production, this firm has produced only 100 liters of bio-diesel from Jatropha per day. The present time, the bio-diesel is locally produced and locally consumed.

The bio-diesel sold to market in Kampong Speu and Kandal provinces, costs only 3,000 riel ($0.75) per liter.

Chheuy sophors, director of the company, which is 51 percent Cambodian owned, was quoted by the VOA Khmer as saying that Jacam Energy has invested some $400,000 in refining its fuel, following three years of research and development. Another $100,000 will be added to increase production.

The company is facing a shortage of jatropha grain, which threatens the company’s vision, added he.
