Cambodian cotton exported to China’s market
Cotton processing plant, Seladamex, in Battambang province will be exported approximately 100 tonnes of raw cotton to China’s market. Plant also has signed a deal to supply a Chinese firm with two-thirds of the plant’s raw cotton stock on February, reported the Phnom Penh Post.
Kong Chan, Seladamex project manager, was quoted by the Post as saying that he declined to name the other company involved. Raw cotton is currently being sold for around US$2,000 per tonne on international markets, an increase of $500 on prices recorded late last year.
In October last year, the plant planned to export 1,000 tonnes of cotton to Vietnam. That plan was put on hold due to cotton shortages, the post reported.
