International trade with Hong Kong drop 24 percent by July

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council released Tuesday at a press conference in Hong Kong updated data of bilateral trade between Cambodia and Hong Kong, declining 24.39 percent in the period of the first seven months of this year. The drop of international trade was due to the global economy recession.

The figure of trade between the both nations dropped from US$380.94 million to $288 million this year. The Cambodia’s total exports was up to $9 million from $5.44 million during the year up to the end of July but Hong Kong’s exports to Cambodia decreased from $375 million to $279 million.

“The drop was because of the global financial crisis. However, now trade between Cambodia and Hong Kong is becoming stable because the economy is not so bad; it may not drop further,” Johnny Wan, senior exhibitions manager at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, was quoted by the Phnom Penh Post as saying.
