Energy and mining deal between South Korea and Cambodia
Cambodia and South Korea will sign an agreement on energy and mining exploration but the memorandum of understanding on energy and mining resource between the both countries was signed when PM Hun Sen visited Seoul in June.
On Monday, the Premier had a meeting with Shin Jae-hyun, South Korea’s visiting ambassador in charge of energy and natural resources cooperation, to make discussion about plans for joint study agreement in Cambodia but the details of the proposed deal were not available.
Eang Sophalleth, the prime minister’s spokesman was quoted by the Post as saying that the Prime Minister expressed hope that, after the agreement is signed, South Korea and Cambodia will use the Kingdom’s energy and mining resources for its further development.
Cambodia has a number of onshore concessions that remain unexplored, although the government is only accepting offshore bids for disputed Area IV in the Gulf of Thailand.
Shin Jae-hyun also expressed his sympathy and condolences to Cambodian victims who suffered from Ketsana storm last week and hoped the Ketsana-hit regions would be restored soon under the Cambodian government’s leadership, reported Xinhua.
