Soldiers stationed at Preah Vihear to hold joint ceremony
After the tension between Cambodian and Thai troops at Preah Vihear temple eased, the both soldiers stationed at disputed areas plan to hold joint ceremony Saturday in Ta Thav about 7 kilometers from the Preah Vihear temple order to improve the good relationship between the two countries.
Ten Navun, first lieutenant with the RCAF, was quoted by the Phnom Penh Post as saying that “both sides agreed to hold the ceremony together at Ta Thav in mid-August. Our ceremony’s purpose is to develop understanding and ease tensions between the two groups,” adding that in order to soldiers from Cambodia and Thailand, monks and government officials from both countries are to be present at the ceremony.
“We all support this ceremony, but ceremonies and blessings won’t stop the tension here. The important thing is that the Thais respect their agreements with Cambodia,” said Ros Heng, governor of Chom Ksan district in Preah Vihear province, quoted by the Post as saying.
Preah Vihear temple was listed as World Heritage Site in July 07, 2008 in Canada by UNESCO. The arm conflicts between Cambodian and Thai troops have taken place after three Thai people entered illegally within Cambodian territory.
